The project increases children’s/young people`s knowledge and awareness about Agenda 2030 and reinforce young people`s role in achievement of SDGs by improving they social skills and active engagement at the local and international level. Young people will create a network of agents of change.

Partner countries: Finland (Fimigrant RY), Sweden (Burgårdens Gymnasium), Denmark (Crossing Borders), Estonia (Sillamäe Lastekaitse Ühing, Eesti Naisuurimus- ja Teabekeskus), Latvia (Paaudzu dialogs) and North-West Russia (Interuniversity center for intercultural communication and civic education).

The main goal of the project is to discuss the role of children and young people in reaching the SDGs and global cooperation in building the future they want. This project aims is to increase knowledge of children and young people about UN SDGs in the context of globalized world, as well as enhance their capacity as well as enhance their capacity to be an agents of change and their engagement towards achieving 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) in their daily activities.

Additional goals:
– To encourage innovation and sustainability as a tool to use to address effectively difficult problems on reaching the UN SDGs and develop solutions for them by gender equality approach.
– To increase communication across Nordic region and improve with Baltics & North Russia by develop new informational/educational resources (web, short video lessons and toolkit) – designed by young people for young people – on SDG issues.
– To recognize the benefits of working together across cultural boundaries as we share common goals and a common future.

The target group of the program is children and young people aged 15+ (with different ethnicities and economic backgrounds, including young people with special needs and minorities) and experts (teachers, youth workers and specialist) in fields of sustainable development.

Practical project outcomes: Educational Toolkit and Web-resource
Educational toolkit is based on expert and young people meetings and also on outcomes of the training sessions.
Purpose of the toolkit is to find and share good practices in promoting 17 Sustainable development goals in the context of gender equality. The toolkit will be used and distributed to target group, teachers, youth workers, educators, civil society organisations and experts after the project finished in daily life. The toolkit includes manual of SDGs and gender equality for adults working with young people and short educational films.

The web-resource development will be lead by the Finnish lead partner but the development is planned to be handled with full participation of all partners and especially (vulnerable groups of young people) of Nordic regions + Baltic and NW Russian representatives. Web-resource will contain Nordic countries official languages: Finnish, Swedish, Danish and English.

Expected project results:
• Children and Young people learn how UN SDG could be achieved on local and international level and how they can contribute to UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development implementation and will describe their role in achievement of SDGs.
• Gained theoretical knowledge and practical skills on how to utilize the existing international and regional human rights and educational instruments to prepare and implement children and youth-friendly policies.
• Gained new skills and knowledge in the themes of all UN SDGs and especially on gender equality, digital society and tools of good governance.
• Improved their understanding about UN Sustainable Development Goals, importance of local activities and global cooperation, human rights and youth empowerment in the context of regional processes and international politics.
• Built a network of active children and young people, also civil society organisations, government representatives and other relevant organisations.
• Useful educational toolkit (short educational films, web-resources, training manual) for children,young people and experts working in the various fields of UN SDGs themes.

Various teaching methods will be employed by the experienced trainers/experts in order to promote efficient and interactive learning of theoretical approaches to SDG and Human rights, and practical skills and knowledge. The programme of trainings for children and Youth consists of workshops, local study visits and group exercises. Practical group assignments would be a key component, where participants will be able to learn from each other, create a joint cooperation initiative and explore highly topical issues of relevance to their national and local practices in achieving 17 SDG and their own goals.
